Our History

Bill and Kathryn Sample began The Book Farm, Inc. in an outside building on their small Ohio sheep farm in 1991. Bill, who loved playing guitar, would sell books and play for children's story hours.

As Bill sold books to public libraries and schools, Kathryn packed and shipped orders. They soon hired their first employee and moved the operation off the farm to nearby Blanchester, Ohio.

Bill was president of the company until his passing in 2012.
After, Co-Founder Kathryn Sample and Leah Burden worked together to lead the company until Kathryn's passing.

The goal of our company is to provide children's literature in sturdy bindings.  We pride ourselves on our outstanding customer service.  We guarantee that we will always strive for the best wear-resistant binding, the most knowledgeable staff, and helpful sales representatives in our market.  We are committed to children’s literacy and putting books in the hands of kids.

In 2021, Book Farm LLC, under the direction of Liz Goble, moved the offices and warehouse to downtown Williamston, MI.  The company opened a new outlet bookstore in that location and enjoyed the downtown life for two years before moving to the country in Williamston, back to the Book Farm's farm roots.  The new location houses the Book Farm's offices, warehouse, and an outlet bookstore, offering great books, puppets, and educational toys for kids of all ages at discounted prices.  This is a true outlet store for children’s books that were overstocked, and or discontinued through our library wholesale business, plus new board books, picture books, chapter books, and graphic titles.
